The Soccer World Cup

For a team to make it to the soccer world cup means that they have proved to be a part of the best that play in their sport. This award is only given out every four years for the championship and it takes three years just to try and qualify for the honor. Of course after fighting for the opportunity to make it to the big game each team will more or less fight for the right to be called the champion and they will give it everything that they have to be deemed the winner.

During the three year battle for the honor, teams will compete to show that they are the best so that they can make it to the final game. The world cup finals is when 32 teams compete over the period of around a month's time to be the chosen one in the soccer world cup game. For three years before this time better known as the qualification phase, is the period that teams battle it out to be a part of the qualification phase and then move on the next round. It is a big event over this time period.

Although this tournament started out with only a few teams, it grew to 24 in a small amount of time and then eventually was expanded to 32 teams. This of course made it possible for more countries to be able to compete to win the trophy. The soccer world cup is not only sought after by men but by women as well. They enjoy the competition just as much and can play just as fierce as the men although it is more popular on the men's side of the game than on the ladies.

The teams that win the trophy get to keep the original one until the next tournament is played and another winner is chosen. At that time, the team will receive a replica of the original to keep. Of course, each team member of the three teams that are on the top is given medals to represent their standings in the soccer world cup. This means that one team will get gold, one will get silver and the last bronze. Each medal is a symbol of honor and all the hard work that each team has done in order to succeed and be a part of the top three.

As you can see, there is a lot that goes into the soccer world cup. It is a fight to the death so to speak for each individual team and they will fight for the honor to be the ultimate champions. As with any sport, this one has its rules and regulations as well and each team member must follow them otherwise they could be thrown out of the game. All in all, this is a game that countries from all over the world get to compete in which makes it a melting pot of sorts and a very interesting game to watch.

Powerful Tips and Secrets on How to Score Goals in Soccer (Football)

1) You have to want to Score Goals.

Every time you're on the ball you need to be looking to score goals. If you look at the best goal scorers in the world, the Lionel Messis' and Cristiano Ronaldo's, every time they are on the ball the first thing on their mind is to score. Their first touch is always towards the opposition's goal and their looking for open space to capitalize. Always look to Score! It's a mentality just as much as it is a skill set.

2) Don't Hesitate when it comes to shooting.

Too many players beat one player and get an opening, then simply pass the ball off to another player or wait for the defender to get back in position and attempt to beat him/her again. Shoot the ball! Don't hesitate when it comes to shooting. You're never going to Score if you don't shoot. If you find yourself hesitating when you have an open shot, notice this habit, and attempt to correct it over time.

3) Get into Goal scoring areas.

You're not going to score many goals if you're hanging out at the half way line. If you want to score goals you have to get into the heat of the action. If you're a striker get on the end of through balls and crosses. Midfielders need to complete their runs and get into the box. Defenders can even get forward to help out if the situation allows. You will score many goals in your career simply by being in the right place at the right time. Always complete your run. Get into goal scoring areas!

4) Demand the ball when your open.

Let teammates know that you're open. Let them know that you want the ball. Many players don't want the ball when they are open, they are scared to get the ball and have the pressure on them to finish the goal. You need to remove this habit from your game if this is currently your situation. Be confident, demand the ball, and take your chances. You'll never score if you don't try.

5) Always, Technique and Accuracy over power.

You are not going to score nearly as many goals as you could, if all you try to do every time you get a shot, is smash the ball as hard as you can. I realize we all want to rip a blistering shot in to the top corner and put a whole in the back of the net - but do yourself a favour. Focus on accuracy and technique before power; simply place the ball into an open area of the goal instead of trying to blast the ball as hard as you can. Trust me; this will result in many more goals throughout your Soccer career.

Implement these helpful tips into your game and you will be on your way to improving your goal scoring tally.

The Key to Profitable Soccer Betting

Generating an additional income from soccer betting can be similar to any money making venture because many people tend to fail or give up during the first few months. If more bettors were able to adopt a long term strategy then success would probably follow. People are led to believe that the only way to make money is to have the typical day job. Other ways of earning an income are frowned upon so it is not surprising that lots of people who try to make money from betting on soccer do not achieve their goal.

Those who do not succeed with betting on soccer are usually guilty of wanting an instant return. They do not have the time or the patience required to dedicate to such ventures. In this respect, soccer betting is like any other business in that it bears fruition over time. Betting on soccer can feel like you are taking two steps back to take three steps forward. Not all of your bets are winning ones and you will occasionally have the odd disappointment. However, it is important not to lose sight of the overall objective because that is what makes the difference between success and failure.

Anyone who is interested in earning an income from soccer betting should be aware that success is not always instantaneous. To ensure long term success, a clearly defined time period should be dedicated to the venture as well as having a suitable betting bank in place. One of the greatest myths surrounding soccer bets, is the size of betting bank you have available will dictate how successful you are. There have been many examples of people starting with modest banks and building their funds over time.

When it comes to profitable soccer betting, you need to have an effective strategy at your disposal. It also needs to be given sufficient time to produce results. Many experts feel that the most important ingredients to ensure long term profitability are without doubt discipline and patience. These two qualities are crucial and if you have them in abundance then you shall not go far wrong.

Express Printed Promotional Football (Soccer Ball) Shaped Stress Balls

The good thing about football matches is that they keep coming. As soon as one finishes, football fans will already be planning what they will be doing and where they will be for the next. Football is one of the most popular sports in the world and many businesses have used this fact in their own company promotions. Why not? With so many football mad fans out there, you are sure to make a hit when using football related promotional merchandise to promote your company, organisation or club. Promotional football shaped stress balls are one of the most popular promotional tools for doing just that.

The problem is, however, that with such a popular sport, football squeeze balls are often running low in stock! A big event such as the World Cup is bound to bring many marketing professionals to turn on their browsers and try to source these fun, eye-catching products. Often they are disappointed as others have beaten them to the available stock.

Most promotional gift suppliers purchase their stress products from big wholesalers. These wholesalers may purchase foot ball stress relievers in the thousands but when there stock goes it is gone until the next shipment arrives and this could be too late for your event. If your current supplier only uses wholesalers, they may not be able to assist you with express lead times and your promotion could be in jeopardy.

So what do you do if this happens to you? First you need to find a supplier that specialises in promotional stress toys. There are a few of them out there and a good search online should bring you to some of their sites. You are looking for suppliers that have built websites around stress products, actively promoting them. Many will keep their own stocks and/or can import them for you quickly directly from the factory.

The next bit of advice I give you will apply to pretty much any Chinese manufactured promotional product. If you want to get an excellent deal on top quality promotional stress balls and get the stock fast, you need to order from a supplier that works closely with the manufacture. Where most suppliers will not be able to supply you when stocks have run dry, a specialist in squeeze ball products will be able to get them for you, custom made in your colours and even printed in full colour and deliver them to you in approximately 12 days.

Do you want to hear another bonus? It will cost you 30% to 50% less than purchasing through a gift supplier that does not import the products themselves.

You will find a massive selection of promotional stress balls including sports shapes at stressballs.co.uk

Soccer - With the World in Financial Turmoil, How Safe is the English Premier League?

How rich are the benefactors buying into football at the moment? It is a question worth asking now that the supposed mega-wealth of Manchester City is threatening to turn the football world upside down.

Could it be possible that a club prepared to spend £108m on bringing Kake, arguably the world's most talented player, to north-west England and then paying him £500,000 a week to live there, could go bust.

Can a club that boasted only last week that it was looking to have two world class players for each position on the field, actually have an owner whose finances are freefalling to such an extent that he could pull the plug without any warning?

Are Man City bullet-proof?

Chelsea used to think they were, but they are now in danger of becoming the latest victims of the downturn after it was announced that their owner Roman Abramovich is putting the club up for sale.

Abramovich walking out suddenly puts the credit crisis into perspective for football.

The Russian tycoon was the original football moneybags. To date he has spent £600m in turning Chelsea from a team on the verge of administration into one of the biggest teams in Europe. But the downturn has cost Abramovich dear. Last year he lost at least an estimated £3bn of his £11bn fortune and with similar losses expected next year, there are rumours that he is suffering from a severe cashflow problem. His companies had to be bailed out with a £1.8bn loan from the Russian government recently.

With the world in financial turmoil, how safe is the Premier League?

Roman Abramovich is selling up at Chelsea because he can't afford to borrow another £1.8bn from the Russian government to keep him in Shevchenkos. West Ham owner Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson is facing the poor house, and even Man City's trillionaire sheikh is losing hundreds of millions of pounds a day. Is the super-rich Premiership really immune to the nightmare scenarios facing ordinary companies.

Abramovich wants £800m to walk away, and the only interested parties at that price are the oil-rich Gulf Arabs. Man City have one of the richest in Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the brother of the ruler of Abu Dhabi, but there seem to be plenty more where that came from if the five or six interested parties for Chelsea are any indicator.

But, and it is a huge but, are the Gulf Arabs as rich as they say they are, and is there wealth built on more solid ground than the sandy desert they inhabit?

There is no easy answer to that, but there are major concerns that the wealth of Man City's Sheikh Mansour and his compatriots is not as bottomless as it once seemed.

When the sheikh cemented his interest in Man City in August last year, newspapers breathlessly reported that his wealth rose $500m with ever $1 the price of oil rose. Back in the heady days of August last year, when the credit crunch was just an interesting new term for financial shenanigans, the oil price was as high as $146 a barrel.

Now with the oil price just under $38 a barrel, his losses since August equate to $5.4bn. And that is just on one investment avenue - albeit a vital one for the rich sheikh. Oil constitutes 56 per cent of Abu Dhabi's economy.

Last Friday was a particularly black day for the sheikh financially. His controversial investment into Barclays Bank last October was hit as the bank's shares plummeted 25 per cent on the London Stock Exchange. It cost the rich Abu Dhabi prince a cool £440 million in one day's trading. Experts say it won't be the last of the crisis for the UK-listed bank either.

Perhaps more interesting is the fall in the value of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority - the private well of money that was set up by Sheik Mansour's father, the Sultan, in the 70s to channel the family's wealth -sorry, the country's wealth - into profitable ventures. In the last six months the fund has been crucified by the credit crunch. Although there are no official figures because the private company does not have to publish its accounts, experts say that the biggest wealth fund in the world has lost a third of its value from the $453bn it managed last year to the $328bn it manages now. Another big blow to the Abu Dhabi coffers.

Additionally, as chairman of First Gulf Bank, Sheikh Mansour has had to trim scores of jobs off the bank's payroll as it suffered in the markets. Last weekend it was downgraded by credit agencies, a sure indicator of financial turmoil. The bank's reliance on foreign markets, particularly US bond markets means that it has not been able to escape the global slowdown and could suffer further drops from a double whammy of plunging oil prices and pressure on real estate markets - a staple in the Gulf.

And Abu Dhabi is one of the better-off Gulf states: the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain are all much worse off.

Sheikh Mansour and Roman Abramovich are not the only members of football's moneyed elite to suffer recently. Indeed, football's rich list is littered with casualties that suggest football is one more downturn away from financial oblivion.

Tottenham's effective owner Joe Lewis lost a cool £500m of a £1.5bn fortune (a third, goddamit!) when Bear Stearns collapsed. Championship club QPR's part-owner Lakshmi Mittal, the steel magnate, has also taken a pounding. Reportedly the world's richest man, he has seen his wealth drop from a reported £27.7bn last year to a meagre £11bn.

The most high-profile loss is that of Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson, the Icelandic owner of West Ham United, whose holding company Hansa has been threatened with insolvency. It was the collapse of Icelandic bank Landsbanki that did for Gudmundsson. As well as bankrupting an entire nation, the fall of Landsbanki has left Gudmondsson needing to sell West Ham at a cut price by March if he is not to be ruined.

Others will no doubt follow.

To put this all into perspective, however, there is still plenty of money in the Gulf States, Russia, and the US - certainly more than enough to prop up a few ailing Premiership clubs.

But the downturn has swept away prospective football speculators and put off many others from acquiring a new rich plaything. Just ask the owners of Ferretti, the world second-largest yacht maker, who last week had to call in debt advisers because sales of yachts have plummeted so drastically since August - when Sheikh Mansour bought Man City - that they are no longer viable. The extent of their demise has been so rapid that next week they are expected to announce profits for the year to August 2008 of EUR184m. And yet they could probably be out of business by the time August 2009 comes around.

It's a very sobering thought.

Which makes you think: if the super-rich are not buying yachts anymore - as staple to the super-rich as a TV is to a working man - what on Earth will tempt them to buy a football club: which are often laced in debt; invariably riddled with pampered overpaid stars; and always pilloried by thousands upon thousands of supporters who act like they own the club.

If I was an Arab billionaire, I'd be more tempted to opt for a traditional plaything and throw money at the search for the next Kentucky Derby winner. At least horses don't answer back when you feed them.

With so much popularity being shifted towards soccer around the world, it's no wonder that there are a lot of different FIFA t-shirts to take advantage of.

Soccer Cleats Buying Guide

Comfort is the most important factor by far. Choose a boot that has a slightly tight fit when buying because they'll expand overtime. There should be a gap of 7mm-10mm between the longest toe and boot material. Also, choose a pair appropriate to your foot type. Some boots are more suitable for narrow feet and some are best for wide feet. If you're not sure about your foot type, have your feet assessed by an expert.

Playing surfaces range from soft ground, firm ground, hard ground, Astroturf and indoors. An extension in the model name (SG, FG,HG, TF, IN) indicates the most suitable playing surface. What determines the suitability is of course, the studs. SG boots will have round studs which are best for soft or wet playing surfaces. HG and FG have 'bladed' studs, best for dry and hard surfaces. Astroturf boots have many rubber studs and indoor boots might not have studs at all. The wrong usage of boots can lead to drop of performance, reduced life span of boots and/or injuries.

Some boots enhance your performance in a particular area more than others. Find out which of your playing attributes you'd like to enhance . Be it first touch, accuracy, speed, swerve etc. there's always a boot which helps you improve on any particular aspect(s).

The higher your level of play, the more hi-tech your boots should be. If you're playing on a lower level or play recreationally, you wouldn't want to waste a lot of money on high end boots.

With football boots, you get what you pay for. The more technology incorporated into them, the higher the price. But do remember that higher-priced boots are not necessarily better.

Style is not the most important of aspects, but you do want to look stylish.

Shop for boots in the afternoon. This is the time when your feet's volume are maximum.

Get recommendations from others who've used a particular boot before. You won't get the feeling of playing on a football pitch by running around the store.

Do some research before buying. Don't let store owners rip you off. Read the reviews posted on websites, blogs and magazines.

If you want high-tech boots without the expensive price tag, go for the predecessors of current high end boots.

Shop online. You'll have more choices and might get better deals.

Once you've made the purchase, DO remember to break them in.

Soccer Skills - How To Improve Your Weaker Foot

Improving your weak foot takes a serious amount of time and hard work for results to start to show. There's no doubt that the best players in the world have almost equal ability with both feet. They can perform dummies, tricks and pass efficiently with both feet giving them more options and opportunities when they have possession of the ball. Being able to use both feet is a skill that every modern footballer needs to have.

There is no real secret to improving your weaker foot other than hard work in your soccer training. As a player you need to be able to dribble with both feet giving you the sense of unpredictability against defenders. It allows you to beat defenders either using your left or right foot. To improve your weaker foot ball control you can do simple drill is such as little cuts, any kind of touches on the ball with your weaker foot is improving it. To accelerate the process of improving your weaker foot you need to perform dribbling drills such as little cuts around any kind of objects. To perform this you dribble the ball touching the ball with the inside of the foot with your weaker foot then with the outside of foot with the weaker foot and repeating this is in a continuous motion. You can then create a variations such as 2 touches with the inside foot and 2 touches with the outside of the foot. Another one is two touches with the inside of the foot and one touch with the outside of the foot. There are many variations to this drill and is your hard work that will make these drills pay off.

To improve passing with your weaker foot you simply have to do use your weaker foot. This can be done by either grabbing a mate and simply passing the ball in different styles to each other learning and maintaining skills with your weaker foot. Or if you do not have the opportunity to grab a friend you can always find a wall and practice passing the ball and receiving the ball with the wall. It's important when using the wall that you pick a consistent spot and try to hit it on a consistent basis. It's crucial that you learn not only to pass the ball along the ground with your weaker foot, but to learn to chip the ball and practice your long passes. It's crucial that you do not become a one footed player as this will make you predictable.

FIFA 10 - The Next-Gen Soccer Video Game Experience

Here is my two cents on FIFA 10 video game;

Graphics: The graphics of this version of FIFA is superiorly much better than the previous versions of the game. The players look more realistic and can be compared to that of PES 2009(although it is much better). The player's shirts, shorts, and hair move and their breath on a cold, snowy day can be seen. The facial features of the players can be seen more clearly. This is probably THE next-gen soccer experience.

Available Platforms: Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, PC, Nintendo DS, N-Gage, PSP, Cell Phone, and the iPhone through the AppStore.

New Features:

To make sure that the attacking team doesn't have an advantage on the counter attack, the defensive line or "the defense" will be positioned deeper. This was done improve the realism of game play.
360 Degree Dribbling System - A new system which allows players to make more 'precise' passes. These 'precise' passes were not able to be made in previous versions of the game.

Improved Features:

Manager Mode: Now, making a 5-star team is much harder. This means you can't just buy many highly-rated players and expect your team to become a 5-star team. You have to gain experience with your team. Another cool thing is that your pre-season friendly matches are organized by your ASSISTANT MANAGER! I thought that this was pretty cool.
A.I. has been improved.
Set-piece delivery has been improved. This means that scoring goals or crossing from a free kick/corner is much easier.

David Ruther revealed the following features on his Twitter account:

The wall defending against a free kick can be moved through use of the shoulder button.
The game will not feature dynamic lighting.
Cross-park passes are now generally a lot more driven, and will take about half the time to cross the pitch.
You can assign specific stadiums to clubs.
On cold days, it may snow, and players' breath will be visible.
There will be new crowd effects.
There will be a new training mode, similar to the one in the PS2 version.

US Major League Soccer (MLS) and Its Steady Growth

Organized in 1993, the United State's Major League Soccer federation was established in order to create a Division One-level professional football league in exchange for the staging of the 1994 FIFA World Cup. The MLS began play in 1996, and had an initial ten teams competing.

The MLS is considered as the premier professional football league in North America. Currently, it has thirteen teams, which are mostly based in the U.S., along with one Canadian team. The league's matches are regularly broadcast on national TV, and are also featured in a number of Web sites that offer daily updates, football highlights and live streaming videos as well.

How the MLS Season Runs

The Major League Soccer season generally runs from late March or early April to November, and teams here play a total of 30 regular-season matches each. During the post-season playoff, a total of 8 teams compete with each other, and this culminates with championship final or the MLS Cup.

For the 2008 season, the MLS matches will be played from March 29 to October 26. A total of 14 teams are divided into the Eastern and Western Conferences, who have seven teams each. The league's postseason starts on October 30 and runs until November 23, ending with the MLS Cup 2008 finals.

MLS Team Names and Ownership Formats

Teams in the MLS, much like other American professional sports teams, generally are given nicknames at their inception. Teams like the Tampa Bay Mutiny, Los Angeles Galaxy, Houston Dynamo, Columbus Crew, San Jose Clash have nicknames much like other US sports teams, while clubs like D.C. United and Miami Fusion FC, have more traditional European-style titles.

How the MLS Managed To Grow Despite Experiencing a String of Financial Losses

The Major League Soccer federation, according to a BusinessWeek magazine report, has lost more than $350 million since its inception. However there have been positive signs of growth and profitability for the league. With the completion of more soccer-specific stadiums, the levels of ownership have expanded and television coverage has also increased as well.

The league has managed to see revenues significantly soar and successfully kept its expenses to a minimum. Television coverage of the pro league has also consistently expanded as well, with league organizers and team owners sealing a deal with US broadcaster ESPN for added TV rights and increased presence across North America. The league also saw the return of MLS to Univision and its Spanish-language networks, in a major bid to corner the lucrative Hispanic-viewing market and increase its fan base in Latin and South America as well.

The Worldwide Web has also helped the league flourish, with fans trooping to many Web sites that show football highlights, updates and live streaming videos of different MLS matches.

Knee Braces for Football (Soccer)

Football players are commonly struck down by knee injuries, resulting most frequently from tackles and sudden changes of direction. Injuries such as torn ligaments and cartilage tears are regularly seen.

It is therefore not surprising that many amateur football players decide to wear a knee support or brace following such an injury. This can aid to protect the structures surrounding the knee from further injury, as well as giving the player a psychological boost and more confidence in the knee.

The important things to consider when purchasing a knee support for soccer include:

Ensuring that the brace can be worn for competitive football

Due to the potential for injury to an opponent, supports or braces with exposed solid parts are not permitted. This includes hinges and buckles. Some stabilised braces are suitable.
The support does not limit movement

It is important to be able to bend the knee fully so as to not affect performance.
The support is comfortable to play in

It is vital that a support is comfortable so that it does not cause the player to lose concentration or feel the need to constantly adjust the support.

The first point is of course the most important. In league fixtures hinged supports and those with exposed solid parts are not permitted. They may be acceptable in 5-a-side situations but it is always advisable to check with the governing body. If a hinged knee brace for football is really required then the question of whether the individual is ready to be playing the sport should be addressed.

A stabilised brace would be the highest level of support permitted, but even some of these have solid plastic buckles and similar which may not be allowed. Examples of permitted supports include the LP709a and LP X-Tremus.

Of course a simple knee support without any metal parts is also suitable and can be used to provide low-level support, as well as compression and often patella support. Wrap-around knee supports are also available for those who prefer the fit or like variable compression - especially useful if the knee swells with activity!

Further considerations include the material the support is made of. Many knee supports are made of neoprene - a type of synthetic rubber - which is used for its compressive and heat retaining properties. These are important in the early stages of an injury, however once returning to sport many people find neoprene is too hot and becomes uncomfortable. There are now a number of supports available in a range of other materials, including latex free for those with allergies.

Learning How to Play Soccer

Soccer is the most popular sport in the world. It is, therefore, not surprising that millions of children around the world want to learn how to play soccer.

Although it looks simple, there is a lot more to learning how to play soccer than first meets the eye. The following explains some of the skills which are required when learning how to play soccer.

Learning the Rules

To learn how to play soccer first you must clearly understand its rules. Although a relatively simple game, soccer involves some complex rules which need to be learnt and understood from a young age. For example, what constitutes a fair and unfair challenge, how to take a throw-in, and the somewhat controversial and confusing offside rule all need to be understood when learning how to play football and becoming an accomplished player.

Basic Skills

Developing a basic skill set is vital when learning how to play to soccer. Most soccer schools will first teach the skill of dribbling and ball control. Once this has been mastered the player can then move on to passing, shooting, heading and tackling. These are the basic components of any soccer player and will be developed over time and with practice.

Tactics

Once a soccer player has learned the basic skills of how to play soccer, they must move on to understanding the game further by learning about tactics.

Many soccer coaches will also offer tactical training in the form of soccer coaching exercises and some may even employ the use of DVDs, in order to get their point across. It is only when a player fully understands the role of tactics in the game, and can apply these in a match that they can fully appreciate the importance of the coach, and the role of each position in the team.

Additional Attributes

Learning how to play soccer is about much more than technical attributes. What separates great football players from the rest is their levels of commitment and professionalism. Having the right attitude and ability to bounce back from setbacks is essential, as well as having carefully planned nutrition and fitness regimes in order to ensure that you keep your body in excellent condition. These are factors which are often overlooked, however, combining these factors with hard work, practice and dedication is essential if you are going to learn how to play football effectively.

Soccer in America

Soccer, as football is called in America, is one of the fastest growing sports in the country. Though it has been played in the US for more than 200 years, it has been a quiet sport. Only recently has it begun to grow at an alarming rate: there are more than 8 million soccer players in America, on all levels. There are a few reasons for the slow growth up to this point, and the sudden popularity of the sport now:

Soccer in America has always been seen as foreign, and so, in most cases, frowned upon. There is little media coverage within the States, so it hasn't had the chance to become popular. Also, for over 100 years, there was no professional soccer team in the United States. It was all amateur and semi-professional. So, its growth was slow.

Now, however, there are people immigrating to America from countries where soccer is extremely popular. They have come to the US and brought the sport with them. In addition, concerned parents are starting to turn away from the traditional American sports, particularly American football, because of concerns for violence and injury.

Soccer in America today is extremely popular. Despite a slow start, it seems that the Americans are trying to make up for lost time: there are now five major soccer stadiums throughout the country, with more on the way. There is a professional women's national team as well as the men's national team. Both of these teams have done extremely well in international tournaments and competitions, including the "biggest upset in the history of soccer", in 1950.

In America, soccer is played by people of all ages, all genders, and all ethnicities. It is especially popular among the white and Hispanic population.

As is evident, soccer is a growing sport in America, and we are looking forward to many more years.

What is the Best Way to Buy Football Or Soccer Tickets?

If you have football tickets and want to sell them or if you want to buy football tickets, the best chance for you to get what you want - be it the tickets or as buyer, is to use the internet. The internet can give you a chance to connect with more people who have tickets to sell or want to buy tickets. You can use an online website as a third party ticket agency and get the best of both worlds.

When you want to buy football or soccer tickets, you have to go to the stadium where the match is scheduled to be played or to a ticket agency. In many cases, the match may be sold out, especially if it is a popular match. If this is the case, then you can either go to the venue to try to get a seat, or you can look online for someone who is selling tickets. If you go online, you can be assured of getting tickets before you turn up at the stadium. In addition, you can choose the seats that you want for the match.

If you have football tickets that you want to sell, then you can also go online and sell your tickets to individuals who want to buy them. You can price them accordingly and wait for someone to pay your price or make you an offer. This can give you the opportunity to get the most money for your tickets as they will likely be sold to someone who is purchasing them for their own use. If you go online, you can find what you are looking for - either way. You can sell them right to someone who is looking for these tickets and will pay the top amount for them.

The same holds true for buying soccer tickets. Using a third party ticket site as a go-between makes sense when you want to get the best deal on your tickets. You can see all of the tickets that are being sold by individuals like yourself and then choose those that will best suit your needs.

Whether you want to buy or sell football tickets, using an online ticket agency is the way that buyers and sellers can connect with one another. The internet makes it easier for everyone to connect who wants to buy or sell tickets to get what they need when it comes to meeting the right connections.

The Physical Demands of Football (Soccer) - Part I

I probably will cop a bit of flack for persisting to describe the round ball game as football whilst living in Australia. Heck, our national team is called the SOCCERoos. Yet I can't help myself. It just makes sense. Of all the footballs, it is the one in which you use your foot most.

Nomenclature nitpicking aside, I said I'd write about the physical demands of the game, so this leads off my two part series which will look at the physical demands of football. This first part will discuss the energy system demands of the game, as well as a suggestion on training for it, whilst the second part will discuss the motor skills required to make it big, or just make an impact at your local ground.

Analysis of World Cup play showed that players on average covered a distance of 10 km in a game, yet over 51% of the high intensity action lasted only 20 seconds or less. Actual sprinting occurred even less, at only 5.8% of the time spent running, Gambetta (2002).

Other analysis shows a total breakdown of movement as follows: It was found that during the 90 minutes players spent 17% (15 min.) standing, 42% (38 min.) walking, 16% (14 min.) jogging, 25% (22 min.) running with less than 2 minutes of this sprinting, dos Remedios (2010).

What does this mean though?

Well, before I read this, and before I knew much about physiology, I would have said soccer is an aerobic dominant sport. Yet now I realise that although it appears to be an aerobic sport, the game is played with a constantly elevated heart rate, with peaks and troughs as effort goes up and down. There are bursts of effort (anaerobic), and recovering from those bursts (aerobic).

With the breakdown of movement, you can see that the game is almost like a multi-directional, reactive, series of sub-maximal high intensity intervals, that last 90 minutes. So hopefully it is a bit clearer that football is much more anaerobic than it appears, and as such, training should be planned accordingly.

It was interesting to hear Sir Alex Ferguson comment on Manchester United's pre season training this summer. He mentioned how in years gone by, the players would perform longer distance running, which included 400 m runs, 800 m runs and often higher. This season he said most of the work was 200 m runs. This is is the change in thought process that parallels his comments I blogged about relating to improvements in sports science.

So ideally, an interval form of training would be used, that taxes high intensity efforts, moderate intensity efforts and low intensity recovery. Multi directional movement is well suited, as it mimics the game, as does incorporating both reactive and proactive ball work into the intervals - it is no good to have a player that can run all game, but can't control the ball when fatigued.

So a sample program could be:

Warm Up:

- Full Body Mobility Circuit (Rocking ankle mobilisations, split stance adductor mobilisations, squat to stand, high knee walks, forearm wall slides, lateral lunge walks)

- Some easy jumping drills

Intervals:

- Box to box runs (from 18 yd line to 18 yd line, at a high, but not flat out pace), perform 10 runs, resting as long as it takes to perform the run

- Multi directional ball drill (groups of 6, with 5 forming a circle holding balls and one in th middle, for 20 seconds, the player in the middle runs to whoever calls his name, and returns a pass played to him, at the end of the 20 seconds, the next player in the circle goes. Repeat 6 times)

- Set up cones/players in a zig-zagging fashion for about 30 metres. Players run from cone to cone and rest 4 times as long as it took them for a total of 5 rounds

- Suicide runs with a ball (From end line to 18 yd line jog, from 18 yd line to halfway line run, from halfway line to 18 yd line walk/very slow jog, sprint the last 18 yds and repeat. Begin at 6 minutes and add 30 seconds each time until 10 total minutes).

Now this isn't a perfect program by any stretch, but it emphasises high intensity repeated efforts alternated with recovery periods, in multiple directions, with and without the ball and in a reactive and proactive manner - just like in a game. Keep that in mind, and you will be well on your way to your best season yet.
